The STEM~Net Class Project Network

Hook, Line and Net '95

August 22, 1995


1994-95 was the pilot phase of the STEM~Net Class Project Network.

It supported a total of 65 Class Projects, covering all grade levels, most subject areas and most parts of Newfoundland and Labrador.


"susie", serves as the class project network and will support the Schoolnet RINGS pilot this year.

"susie" is the same type of computer as calvin except it has less disk space at the moment. It will support a graphical interface in the coming year.


The Class Project Network serves K-12 classes and their Project Leaders for approved online projects.

Project Leaders can have whole classes or groups of students participate in projects on this network through user permits issued in the teacher's name.

The number of accounts is determined by the nature of the project, school resources and computer access.


The STEM~Net Class Project Network is intended to support:
i) teacher-led/endorsed projects
ii) participation in established projects on SchoolNet or the Internet


The STEM~Net Class Project Network aims to:
1. Increase provincial, national, and global awareness among students.
2. Provide knowledge and skills associated with computer mediated communications.
3. Create a model for network citizenship in which attention is focused on the ethics and responsibilities associated with the use of the electronic highway.


Susie services Susie offered the following services last year:
1. Postcard Electronic Mail (e-mail),
2. local Student Newsgroups and many other Newsgroups
3. local and several other Gopher Information Servers and
4. file and directory services.


Susie services Susie will offer these services this year :
1. Postcard Electronic Mail (e-mail),
2. local Student Newsgroups and many other Newsgroups
3. complete internet access to web and gopher, including supporting Netscape.
4. file and directory services.
