Online Math Competition
I. Briefly review the project form. Discuss the project theme, outline and time line; review the project and curriculum objectives.
Our project was developed to provide a working model for Internet online
mathematics competitions for high school students. We will be put together
a project to provide participants or visitors with information and a working
model for running an online version of a mathematics competition. We
developed an archive of questions and solutions with a link so that others
can participate in sending additional problems for the archive.
Outline/Time line:
a) Develop a set of problem solving questions and solutions
b) Develop competition design and format including rules and time lines for
running a competition
c) Design the look and feel of the web site
d) Format for the online questions
e) Determine schools to be involved in the competition
f) Develop instructions for teachers and students in the participating schools
g) Develop links to other math sites of interest
II. Show the audience the outcome of the project proposal.
Results and a tour of the project can be seen at:

III. Briefly comment on any successes or problems that were encountered throughout the life of the project.
The students managed the project almost from beginning to end. I served as
a supervisor. They did it all! The only real problems we had was getting the
other schools involved and getting them to get their answers to the
solutions in on time.
IV. Comment on any aspects of the project that you would do differently.
I would broaden the competition to include schools outside the district.
V. Comment on if and how the project can be expanded next year.
The project can be expanded next year by increasing our archive of
questions and moving it to a database. We could also expand the number
and reach of schools involved.
