Teen TV

I. Briefly review the project form. Discuss the project theme, outline and time line; review the project and curriculum objectives.

The name of the project is Teen TV. The project allows students to write stories about events which are happening around them. The writings are typed and converted into HTML format with pictures or video to accompany each story. Teen TV is a continuing process because students will always have subjects or ideas to write about. Usually, students are given one week to write the story and the Teen TV website is updated every two weeks.

II. Show the audience the outcome of the project proposal.

Results and a tour of the project can be seen at: http://www.k12.nf.ca/roncallips/teen_tv

III. Briefly comment on any successes or problems that were encountered throughout the life of the project.

The project turned out to be very successful. The project was selected as part of the Community Mobilization Program and the school received over $30,000. The project also created a number of videos and CD-ROMs. One of the problems encountered dealt with the amount of time students had to complete their stories. News changes very fast, and usually what is news one day is not news the next.

IV. Comment on any aspects of the project that you would do differently.

If I were to do the project differently, I would want a TEEN TV committee with an editor, web master etc.

V. Comment on if and how the project can be expanded next year.

The project will continue next year. Students will be expected to take their news stories and do a live TV show for their community at least twice a month.
