Trout River Virtual Museum

I. Briefly review the project proposal form. Discuss the project theme, outline and time line; review the project and curriculum objectives.

  • to develop an appreciation of local history

  • to be able to use a scanner
  • to be able to download images in various ways ie. Internet, camera
  • to be able to use an image editing program
  • to be able to use a paint program
  • to be able to create a web page

II. Show the audience the outcome of the project proposal.

Results and a tour of the project can be seen at: http://www.stemnet.nf.ca/~gpye/house5.html

III. Briefly comment on any successes or problems that were encountered throughout the life of the project.

This project got the entire community involved. Parents helped their children with the research and many elders assisted with gathering the artifacts. The whole activity was very successful. It was recognized nationally by GirlsCan Magazine, a nation magazine based in British Columbia.

IV. Comment on any aspects of the project that you would do differently.

I would provide a longer time line, maybe 3 to 4 months, instead of the two. Also, one needs to keep plenty of batteries on hand for the digital camera; it could lead to much down time.

V. Comment on if and how the project can be expanded next year.

This project was completed by a selected number of students as an extracurricular activity. I plan to involve a whole class to continue research and further develop the web page. It will be worked on during regular class time and the research conducted after school hours.
