Community Postcard

I. Briefly review the project proposal form. Discuss the project theme, outline and time line; review the project and curriculum objectives.

The Community Postcards project had several purposes. Primarily, it was to serve as a method to keep study of local culture/geography/history in the school curriculum by requiring students to research their communities in order to produce a one-page summary of their community. It would also serve as a resource for students to learn about other communities, as well as a means by which to develop contacts with other schools throughout the province.

II. Show the audience the outcome of the project proposal.

Results and a tour of the project can be seen at: http://www.k12.nf.ca/buchans/post1.htm

III. Briefly comment on any successes or problems that were encountered throughout the life of the project.

The project was quite successful. Over thirty communities participated in the project, and a great deal of information was collected and posted for display.

IV. Comment on any aspects of the project that you would do differently.

The final interface for the project results is a little difficult to follow, and there was insufficient time to make a fancier index of communities (such as a map of the province with listed communities).

V. Comment on if and how the project can be expanded next year.

More schools should be involved. As well, a virtual tour for each community could be included, as opposed to just snapshots.
