Change Islands Then and Now

I. Briefly review the project form. Discuss the project theme, outline and time line; review the project and curriculum objectives.

The students of A.R. Scammell Academy will provide an online resource to promote their home community. Students from various courses will be responsible for the collection of materials related to their town. They will then take these resources and create a home page which will link to the areas they feel best reflect their town and it's history. Each class involved will be responsible for a specific facet of the project, and upon completion will pool their ideas together to come up with a page that best reflects their ideas. As time goes by additions will be made to the page. Students will be responsible for editing and preparing for uploads.

II. Show the audience the outcome of the project proposal.

Results and a tour of the project can be seen at: http://www.k12.nf.ca/arscammell/career/change.htm

III. Briefly comment on any successes or problems that were encountered throughout the life of the project.

Students learned how to create web pages, html language, digital imagery and social, geographical and personal information about their town. In constructing this page, students dipped into various aspects of the town's past, present and future plans. They then used all the information collected and developed means and methods to present their findings worldwide via the Internet.

IV. Comment on any aspects of the project that you would do differently.

In the future, I would involve some of the younger students in the process of presenting the data collected. This would always ensure that the page has a knowledgeable webmaster which could update frequently from year to year.
