Human Body Systems

I. Briefly review the project form. Discuss the project theme, outline and time line; review the project and curriculum objectives.

The project theme: Students were introduced to the structure and function of body systems.

The outline and time line of the project:

  1. Introduction and discussion of body systems
  2. Research and collection of relevant information
  3. Composition and writing of project
  4. Web page
The curriculum objectives of the project: This project satisfied the objectives of science, language arts, health and physical education.

II. Show the audience the outcome of the project proposal.

Results and a tour of the project can be seen at: http://www.k12.nf.ca/marysimms/bodyindex.htm

III. Briefly comment on any successes or problems that were encountered throughout the life of the project.

The students were successful in acquiring information concerning various body systems. Research skills were developed and students were introduced to various software programs, the Internet, downloading, scanners, e-mail, and the digital camera.

IV. Comment on any aspects of the project that you would do differently.

Aspects of the project that would be carried out differently in the future would be to involve more schools, especially schools from other provinces and countries. This would make the project more informative and also give students more exposure to students from other parts of the world.

V. Comment on if and how the project can be expanded next year.

The project does have a possibility to be expanded next year as mentioned above to include other students from different provinces or countries.

VI. If you are presenting a project other than your own, provide brief anecodotes of the project leader's experiences.

This was an interactive project that involved three schools. Each school studied a different body system. As students completed the research aspect of the project they would design and create, with teacher assistance, their own web site for the system they covered. Links were then created between the schools to connect the three pages into one interactive project on the Human Body Systems.
