S.J.A.G. Online

I. Briefly review the project form. Discuss the project theme, outline and time line; review the project and curriculum objectives.

Project Theme: School Newspaper linked to monthly resource ideas.

Project Outline and Time line:

  1. The project staff will consist of two teacher advisors, a chief editor and three reporters.
  2. All four students will be responsible for the location of material. Each student will be assigned an area: Primary, Elementary, High School, and staff. The students will document events and as well as resource ideas.
  3. All student reporters will be required to type their articles using Corel 8.0. This software contains a variety of graphics and will allow students to publish their articles on the Internet.
  4. Students will be expected to use the digital camera as well as the flatbed scanner.
  5. The monthly edition of the S.J.A.G. Online will be uploaded each month to the school home page.

II. Show the audience the outcome of the project proposal.

Results and a tour of the project can be seen at: http://www.k12.nf.ca/stjosephsag/sjag.htm

III. Briefly comment on any successes or problems that were encountered throughout the life of the project.

This project also involved the School Council, the Lion's Club and the Town Council of Terrenceville. The students approached the Mayor The School Council and Lion Calvin Hackett. They whole heartedly cooperated with the project. Information was forwarded to the school, and interviews took place. The School Council planned an appreciation day for parents, teachers, and students. The administration of the school photocopied enough copies of the paper to hand out to parents. They loved the project and thought all members of the community should have access to it. The kids were over joyed.

IV. Comment on any aspects of the project that you would do differently.

When we began this project, we initially planned four separate issues of the paper. However, since these students only have 1 period per day for enrichment, we discovered there was not enough time to do what we had planned. We instead decided to update the paper instead of creating new ones. This project has become a part of their individual I.S.S.P.'s and is planned to continue for the upcoming school year. There are more advanced technology objectives which these kids can benefit from, and since they loved this project, we are continuing on with it. They now want to redo the school web pages as well.

V. Comment on if and how the project can be expanded next year.

Please see above response.
